ABOUT THE FARM

Oysters, scallops and seaweed. oh my!

Our mission is to cultivate the ocean with care — producing premium shellfish and seaweed products through sustainable aquaculture that strengthens Nova Scotia’s food systems, coastal economy, and connection to the sea.

Wild Heart is built to respect marine ecosystems, create meaningful year-round employment, and inspire the next generation of ocean stewards along the South Shore. And of course – raise some of the most delicious seafood in Nova Scotia!

While our own oysters will take time some time to grow, we are pleased to offer some of the finest oysters from our favourite farms around Nova Scotia. Stop by our oyster cart to see what we’re currently shucking!

Wild Heart is the only 100% woman-owned sea farm in Nova Scotia.

Humble beginnings

How it all started

Hi! My name is Laurie and I am in the early days of starting a shellfish and seaweed farm.

I see sustainable aquaculture as a clear solution to so many complex issues! Growing sustainable and nutritious food, contributing to coastal livelihoods, supporting marine education, and ultimately helping to build the future I want for my child.

I don’t come from a sea farming family, so it took me a while to figure out the path towards my goal. In 2025, my partner, our toddler and I relocated to the South Shore of Nova Scotia to pursue this crazy dream. At the time this felt a bit insane, but with each passing season I know that this was the right choice.

A relaxed workshop where participants will learn about oyster and seaweed cultivation, the origins of Wild Heart, and how to become a master shucker. Even if you’ve shucked before, there’s something for everyone here! Reach out for upcoming classes or book a private event!
